Ready, Player One
My name is Dashaun (Justice is my middle name…no really) and I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I grew up in Brownsville Houses in the 80’s and while it was very violent at times, I had a supportive community to keep me focused. I’ve had a very logical approach for most of my life. Did well in school, played a LOT of video games, obeyed the rules of my parents, etc. I kept it very safe. As an adult I graduated college, had a long and successful career in advertising as a project manager and later as a copywriter. Then however, everything changed.
Why does he play?
Funny you should ask. One fateful day in 2017, a chance run-in with unconditional love completely transformed me and the way I saw the world. It was quite a fairy tale, one too long for this space, but it’s true.
It was this love that opened me up to pushing past fear and opening to possibility in many ways including: connecting with and honoring my ancestors, removing imposed restrictions placed on my life by myself and others, and living fully self expressed and on purpose.
My purpose? To help others live as their authentic selves and remember to play while doing so. To do this, I must remember myself to keep playing.
It was after that spiritual shift that my purpose began to become clear. This is when I started my journey with Reiki, connecting with my ancestors, and eventually initiating in West Africa as an IFÁ and Òrìṣà priest.
This transformation brought clarity around my relationship to play and how sacred it is for me and connected to my own healing. Out of this came the play workshops, counseling work, and unlocking the healing of dance. It is my hope that if aligned, my connection to play and spirit can be of some support to you in your journey.
